Spiders usually have eight eyes but some of them use their vision more than the other species. Wolf spiders are one such spider. They use their vision for communication. For instance, when a wolf spider waves the front legs in a certain way to another one, both knows what it means exactly. There are one hundred and twenty-five species of these spiders in Sydney, Australia. This species is quite huge and is regarded one among the top ten dangerous spiders in the world. Their bites are painful but not lethal. Some people may be allergic to their bites. They just need to seek medical attention.
The spider is ½-2 inches in length and has hairs with orangeish-brown to black and grey camouflage coloring with stripes or splotches of color. It has eight legs like other spiders but has an extra tiny arm or leg like pedipalps extending out to the front.
Wolf spiders are usually found in open areas on the ground like grassy areas and farm fields or under the ground clutter or under the leaf litter. They are even found harboring in the ground tunnels at times. In the home, they are mainly found around windows, doors, basements, house plants as well as garages. They are also known as hunting spiders because they do just that. They do not build webs for capturing their prey; rather they go out at night for hunting them down. If disturbed, they will move away and move very fast. Wolf spiders prefer to live alone. They do not live in packs. They are basically solitary creatures.
